Offline restaurant billing software that does not stop when Wi‑Fi dies

Chefy stores live orders on the branch Windows machine. Cashiers bill, kitchens receive tickets, and waiters work assigned tables without waiting on a cloud API — that is the offline restaurant billing model.

Why offline restaurant billing matters in India

ISP cuts, building firewalls, and festival congestion are normal. A billing system that only works while authenticated to a remote SaaS turns every outage into a handwritten nightmare. Offline restaurant billing software keeps the ledger of open tables on site first.

Chefy’s branch app uses local storage for orders and configuration synced from Restaurant Admin. When Sync Cloud is enabled, paid sales upload for Admin Insights. When the uplink is gone, the floor keeps moving.

  • Local order database on the branch PC
  • KOT / KDS routing without a cloud hop
  • Receipt printing from local printers
  • Hisaab Book closes on the same machine
  • Optional cloud Insights after reconnect

Pure cloud POS tools can still be excellent for analytics and multi-city menus. The failure mode is different: if the tablet cannot reach the vendor API, checkout stalls. Chefy’s design accepts that trade-off in reverse — the dining room is protected first; cloud features degrade gracefully.

What still needs the internet

License activation, first menu sync, Restaurant Admin logins, QR customer menus that hit the public cloud, and uploading Insights all need connectivity. That is expected. The critical path — fire a ticket, print a bill, take payment — does not.

Chefy plans are published on the product site as Starter ₹3,999/month (1 branch, offline POS, KDS tablet), Growth ₹7,999/month (up to 5 branches, Waiter Hub, QR ordering), and Enterprise ₹14,999/month (unlimited branches, SLA, onboarding). Annual billing is offered with roughly 16% savings versus paying month to month.

How to evaluate offline restaurant billing vendors

Ask: Where does an unpaid open order live if the WAN dies for two hours? If the answer is “only in our cloud region,” you do not have offline-first billing. Ask how reprints, cancellations, and kitchen ready states behave on LAN only. Ask whether daily Hisaab can close without cloud.

Chefy answers those with a branch-first architecture documented in product notes for Hisaab Book, KDS modes, and sync. Download the Windows build from /download, activate a test license on UAT, and pull the ethernet cable during a mock rush — that test is more honest than any feature checklist.
